We’re halfway through October and something terrifying looms over your shoulders, filling you with dread— you haven’t picked out a costume yet . You might fear that it’s too late to get your costume in order, but fortunately, there’s still plenty of time to workshop something in time for Halloween.

9. Ninja
While Google’s Frightgeist notes that it’s on a downward trend, ninjas remain one of the most popular costumes out there. The costume is most searched for in Zanesville, Ohio. It’s a mystery as to “why”—a good ninja always keeps their secrets.
8. Cowboy
In the playground debate of “cowboys vs. ninjas,” it looks like the Wild West gunslingers take the win this year, as they’re a spot above Shinobi this year for the most popular Halloween costume. They’re also the highest costume overall for what Google categorizes as a profession. Many pieces make up a good cowboy costume and few are as essential as a swanky pair of boots and a classic cowboy hat to tip to the sheriff.

Wednesday Addams has always been popular, but that popularity saw a huge boost thanks to the Netflix show, Wednesday, which premiered last year. She’s still flying high, being the sixth most popular Halloween costume of the year.

Many must have a taste for a witch’s brew because the witch is the fourth most popular Halloween costume of the year. Better yet for the witch, the costume is trending upward according to Google, perhaps because of last year’s release of Hocus Pocus 2.
3. Spider-Man
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man continues to swing his way toward the top of the most popular Halloween costume list. He’s climbing up this year, perhaps because of the success of the Across the Spider-Verse Spider-Man movie or the excitement about Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man 2 video game. As always, Spider-Man is a great Halloween costume because of the many variations of the character while still being iconic.
