It’s easy to fall into a routine when it comes to sex—whether solo or with a partner—and over the past decade, I’ve been guilty of turning to the same trusty toys again and again. Because if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

While I do love the tried-and-true vibrators that live in my nightstand (we’ve been through a lot together), I have to admit I’ve been itching for something new and exciting to switch things up during my solo sessions, and the Lelo Soraya Wave (available at Lelo) caught my eye. It mostly snagged my attention because it was pretty and, well, I’m a sucker for aesthetically pleasing accessories, but when I started reading people’s praise for this dual-stimulation vibrator, my interest was definitely piqued.

I was a little intimidated by this sleek, shiny sex toy, but once I tried it out, it was easy to see what all the fuss is about. Here’s what it was like to use the Soraya Wave and whether you should buy it for yourself.

The Soraya Wave is a rabbit-style vibrator from the Swedish sex toy brand Lelo. This popular style of women’s vibrator delivers internal and external stimulation at the same time, and the Wave takes it to another level by adding a “finger-like” motion into the mix. In addition to vibrating, the shaft of the toy curls up and down in a “come-hither” motion to maximize G-spot stimulation.

This toy has a soft silicone exterior that comes in three colors, and it has a few stylish metallic accents, including a loop in the base that makes it easy to hold. Its battery offers around two hours of operation per charge, and the toy is fully waterproof.

Testing the Lelo Soraya Wave

The Soraya Wave isn’t the type of toy you reach for when you want to rub out a quick orgasm—it’s a whole experience that you need some uninterrupted time to fully enjoy. To get acquainted with the rabbit vibrator, I carved out an hour one evening after my shower, lit a nice candle and dimmed the lights. With a bottle of my favorite lube in hand, I hopped into bed to see what the Wave had to offer.

After a bit of trial and error, I found it was best to go slow and make sure I was aroused before trying to insert the toy. I started by using the vibrating shaft on my clit, then applied some lube to the top of the toy before sliding it into place. It’s definitely best to insert the toy while it’s off (or at least on the setting where the shaft isn’t moving), as the back-and-forth motion makes positioning the toy much more challenging.

In terms of size, the shaft of the Wave has roughly the same girth as an average-sized penis (in my experience, anyway), and it’s around 4 inches long, so it’s not overwhelmingly big. It did take some experimentation to find just the right angle to hit my G-spot while also having the “ears” stimulating my clit, but the added effort was worth it for the mind-blowing orgasms that ensued.

Unfortunately for my partner, I found that this toy is best suited for solo use. It’s too big and bulky to use during intercourse—you could probably make it work with some complicated contortions, but I’d much rather use a smaller vibrator in those situations.

Soft and easy to clean.

The dual-sensation orgasms are amazing

Up until this point in my life, I’ve been a pretty dedicated “clit girly.” I typically focus solely on clit stimulation when using my other vibrators, so the Soraya Wave’s dual stimulation was a whole new experience for me. The first few times I tried it, the combination of G-spot and clit action was overwhelming—but in a good way.

Once I got comfortable using the Wave, I was able to reach some of my best orgasms ever. It generally only took me a few minutes to “get there”—sometimes I found myself turning the vibration down to prolong the experience—and when I did, the orgasms were stronger and longer than when I solely focused on clit stimulation. The brand describes using the Soraya Wave as a “toe-curling experience,” and I wholeheartedly substantiate that claim.

The exterior is super soft and easy to clean

The first few sex toys I ever purchased (some of which I still enjoy to this day) were made from cold, hard plastic, and while easy to clean, the material definitely isn’t the most tactile. By comparison, the Soraya Wave’s soft, smooth silicone exterior is downright dreamy. The silicone is comfortable and sensual to slide across your skin, and the best part? It never feels cold to the touch!

The outside of the toy is a breeze to clean, as well. The silicone rinses clean with just a little bit of soap and warm water, and because it’s waterproof, the whole thing can be submerged in water without any worries about breaking it. The metallic accents on the sides of the shaft do require a little extra attention, but it never took me more than a few minutes to get the toy back into pristine shape.

The design is pretty and elegant

When I feel pretty, I enjoy sex more. It can be something as simple as doing my makeup or putting on some pretty lingerie, or—in this case—using an elegant, aesthetically pleasing vibrator, but I find it much easier to get in the mood if I’m feeling myself (pun intended).

The Soraya Wave has a luxurious design, with its soft, richly colored exterior and pretty silver accents. The toy’s sleek lines and high-end materials could easily do double duty as a piece of bookcase decor, and it just made me feel sexy when I used it. The experience felt more luxurious than using one of my more plain, utilitarian vibrators, and if you’re someone who likes to feel pampered and elegant, this toy will be right up your alley.

What I didn’t like about the Soraya Wave

It's pretty loud... and expensive.

It’s surprisingly loud

If you’re trying to indulge in some discrete self-pleasure, the Soraya Wave probably isn’t the best tool for the job. I was really surprised at how loud it is during use—the vibration is fairly noisy, and the toy’s back-and-forth moment makes almost a mechanical creaking noise that you could definitely hear from the next room if the environment was quiet. So if you’re trying to keep your bedroom (or bathroom) activities on the DL, this toy may very well give you away.

It’s quite expensive for a rabbit vibrator

The Soraya Wave retails for a cool $259 at full price, but you can sometimes find it on sale for under $200. Still, even at its sale price, this model is substantially more expensive than other rabbit vibrators out there. There are plenty of basic options that cost less than $50, and even more high-tech models often cost around $100.

So why is the Soraya Wave so expensive? For one, Lelo is a more high-end sex toy brand, and you’re paying extra for the luxurious design and top-quality materials. There also aren’t a lot of rabbit vibrators that make the “come-hither” motion—most just vibrate or thrust—and this style of advanced G-spot stimulation is likely reflected in the premium price.

More settings would be nice

For such a high-end sex toy, I was surprised to find that the Soraya Wave only has eight settings. There are different combinations of movement and vibration—for example, you can have the shaft vibrating and the “ears” still, or vice versa. There are also a few vibration patterns and one setting where the shaft is stationary. And, of course, you can increase or decrease the vibration on any of the settings using the + and - buttons on the top of the toy.

While I was able to find a few settings that I liked, I couldn’t help but be a bit disappointed in the lack of control the toy offers. I’ve seen other (less expensive) rabbits that let you control the shaft and ears independently, picking the vibration patterns, intensity, and movement for each component. It would be nice to control the movement speed, as well. Bottom line? If I’m spending $200+ on a toy, I want to be able to really dial it in to deliver maximum pleasure, and the Soraya Wave doesn’t deliver that.

Worth it if you want the sensations.

It’s worth the splurge if you want dual stimulation

If you want a boujee vibrator that delivers dual stimulation or simply crave that “come hither” G-spot stimulation, the Lelo Soraya Wave vibrator is sure to please. It delivered fast, powerful orgasms that, at the risk of soundy corny, rocked my world, and the toy is also visually beautiful and easy to care for.

My biggest gripe with this vibrator is simply its price—if it cost $150 less, I’d be running around recommending it to everyone I met. However, $260 for a vibrator is a lot, and there are similar options that cost a lot less and offer many of the same functions. In fact, some rabbit vibrators offer more settings and even individual control over the shaft and ears, and they still cost quite a bit less than the Soraya Wave.

Bottom line? If you’re in the mood to treat yourself and want a pretty, luxurious toy, the Soraya Wave is a splurge-worthy piece for your nightstand. However, if you’re willing to sacrifice the premium appearance, you can find most of the same functionality elsewhere for less.
