When Sony decided to enter the digital camera market, it did so by buying a well-respected camera maker wholesale. By snapping up Konica-Minolta, it gave itself a shot in the arm of legacy and optics expertise. While Sony continues to manufacture A-mount lenses, the company has since moved on to the mirrorless E-mount. Standard E-mount lenses are built for APS-C cameras like the Sony NEX-5T and A6000. Full-frame FE-mount optics, meanwhile, are designed for more advanced models like the A7 II and A7S.
